Kill shot. Texas Governor Greg Abbot vetoed a proposed ban on hemp-derived THC products and called for a special legislative session to create a regulated framework instead. The decision drew immediate backlash from Lieutenant Governor Dan Patrick, signaling a divide on the issue amongst Republican lawmakers. This led Abbott to issue a response through a spokesperson.
"Governor Abbott has always shared the Lieutenant Governor's desire to ensure that THC products are not sold to our children and that the dangerous synthetic drugs that we have seen recently are banned. SB 3 was well intentioned but legally flawed and this is why he is putting it on the special session agenda so that it can be fixed, improved and signed into law. We should not risk years of potential legal battles when we can fix the bill and protect kids now. Governor Abbott looks forward to working with the legislature to pass a strong bill that is on sound legal footing."
The move, at least temporarily, saves the multi-billion dollar hemp industry in the Lone Star State that would have been crippled by the bill.

Step back. Thailand is set to reinstate stricter cannabis restrictions, moving to recriminalize recreational sales and require a medical prescription for purchase. Public Health Minister Somsak Thepsutin also stated that cannabis will be reclassified as a narcotic in the future.
Thailand originally decriminalized cannabis nationwide back in 2022, becoming the first country in Asia — and only the third in the world, after Canada and Uruguay — to do so. This brought in a wave of tourists from all over Asia where drug laws are notoriously strict.
The industry is currently estimated to be worth over $1 billion.

These results rank the highest among all industries, and reflect strong workplace culture and employee retention efforts.
Cannabis narrowly edged out catering and cafes/coffee shops.
