Split decision. President Donald Trump is considering reclassifying cannabis from Schedule I to Schedule III in a move that would ease research, lower business taxes, and improve industry access to banking. He says a decision could come in the next few weeks.

The potential change has the president's MAGA supporters divided, but has actually found common ground among bipartisan lawmakers.

Trump also apparently mentioned the possibility to donors at a fundraiser earlier this month.

Cannabis stocks soared on Monday as the news made headlines.

Tech

Trade union. Workers at cannabis software giant Dutchie have filed to form a union with the United Food and Commercial Workers (UFCW), America’s largest cannabis union. Members of the organizing committee emphasized the need for improved working conditions, fair pay, and better work-life balance.

“I’ve survived round after round of layoffs and seen countless talented and hard-working people lose their jobs or burn out and leave. We shouldn’t have to leave to find greener pastures. We want job security and clear expectations at the company we helped build. Compensation among our team is wildly inconsistent with our tenure and performance, and raises haven’t kept up with the cost of living. The implementation of an outsourced overseas team, AI tools, and metrics-based micromanagement make us feel like our days are numbered.”

Thelonius (Theo) Spence, product support analyst and organizing committee member

This marks a significant development as the first such effort in the cannabis tech sector.

Business

Raise your glass. Uncle Arnie’s, a leading THC‑infused beverage brand, raised $7.5 million in a Series A funding led by Mindset Capital and Delta Emerald Ventures. Boston Beer Company founding partner Harry Rubin also participated in the round as a strategic investor and has joined the company’s board of directors.

“This funding marks an exciting milestone as we build on five years of success in the cannabis beverage market. That experience has given us the brand strength and operational foundation to win in the rapidly expanding hemp-derived THC space — where we see even greater potential for mainstream adoption.”

Theo Terris, CEO of Uncle Arnie’s

The capital will be used to enter new state markets, accelerate national expansion, close to double the team size, and reinforce leadership in the category.

🇺🇸 STATE OF THE INDUSTRY

Florida: Christopher Kimball, the state’s top cannabis regulator, resigned after nearly three years to become deputy general counsel for Governor Ron DeSantis.

Missouri: Cannabis regulators proposed new rules to block predatory operators from licenses and expand oversight of ownership.

💼 BUSINESS

AYR Wellness winding down in Massachusetts

The cannabis company is closing all four of its dispensaries in the state along with a cultivation and manufacturing facility; in total 157 employees will be laid off in the move that is part of a broader restructuring deal.
