Board beginnings. The National Cannabis Industry Association (NCIA) announced its newly elected 2026–2028 Board of Directors, bringing together seasoned leaders from across the cannabis industry to guide the organization through a critical period of federal policy evolution and industry growth.

New board members include Allison Disney (MixMix), Jamie Pearson (New Holland Group), John Murray (Sustainable Innovations, Inc.), Jordan Isenstadt (Marino), Kasey Kollross (23rd State), Dr. Roz McCarthy (Minorities for Medical Marijuana), and Samuel Rockwell-Shear (Mission Mountain Holdings).

Returning directors reappointed for another term are Adam Stettner (Fundcanna), Benjamin Larson (Vertosa), and Naomi Granger (NACATPRO).

The board’s leadership slate features Adam Rosenberg as Chair, Amy Larson as Vice Chair, Naomi Granger as Treasurer, Jordan Isenstadt as Secretary, and Adam Stettner as At-Large Executive Committee Officer, while longtime director Michael Cooper transitions to NCIA Policy Chair.

This leadership team is poised to support NCIA’s mission of advancing responsible, equitable, and sustainable growth for the legal cannabis industry amid shifting regulatory landscapes.

Policy

Policy pivot. New York legislators have proposed a bill that would let licensed liquor stores sell low‑THC cannabis beverages alongside alcohol under a new permit and regulatory framework, broadening retail access beyond traditional dispensaries.

“New York's independent liquor stores are uniquely qualified to retail low potency cannabis beverages. They are already required to be independently owned, must maintain a distance of at least 200 feet from schools and houses of worship, and employ staff trained in rigorous age-verification protocols.”

These drinks would be capped at 5 mg of THC per serving and must be displayed in a clearly marked area separate from alcoholic products.

Business

Going global. California-based Sunderstorm is accelerating the global reach of its KANHA brand through strategic partnerships across Europe and Australia. Collaborating with New Garden Pharma, a EU‑GMP certified manufacturer in North Macedonia, Sunderstorm will produce medical‑grade cannabis edibles for regulated international markets. Additional partners in Germany, Australia, and the U.K. will support distribution and regulatory compliance, enabling the brand to scale efficiently overseas.

"KANHA is becoming one of the first truly global cannabis brands by entering some of the world's most advanced and highly regulated medical markets. For more than a decade, we've built KANHA into a top-tier brand in the United States, and over the past three years, we've laid the foundation for a fully integrated international supply chain.”

Cameron Clarke, Co-founder and CEO of Sunderstorm

KANHA, known in the U.S. for premium, precisely dosed edibles, has been expanding internationally since 2023, with prior launches in Thailand and Japan. The latest initiatives aim to position KANHA as a pharmaceutical-grade supplier in fast-growing medical cannabis markets, leveraging local production and distribution networks to meet stringent quality standards.

🇺🇸 STATE OF THE INDUSTRY

Arizona: Lawmakers are considering a bill that would criminalize creating “excessive” cannabis smoke or odor by classifying it as a public nuisance and a misdemeanor offense punishable by fines or jail time.

Indiana: A proposed bill that would have banned intoxicating hemp‑derived THC products failed to advance before a legislative deadline.

Virginia: The House of Delegates overwhelmingly passed a bill that would expand state law to allow patients to use medical marijuana while in hospitals and tasks the Department of Health with developing guidelines for its safe implementation.
