Blue wave, green reform. The 2026 midterm elections delivered a major political blow to President Donald Trump and Republicans, with Democrats winning control of both the U.S. House and Senate. Voter frustration over inflation, the cost of living, the war with Iran, and concerns about government corruption helped drive Democratic gains.
“With Democrats taking control of both chambers of Congress, there is a new opportunity to advance comprehensive federal cannabis reform. America's legal cannabis industry generates more than $29 billion in annual sales and supports more than 400,000 jobs, yet federal policy continues to impose unnecessary barriers on businesses operating in state-regulated markets. The new congressional leadership has an opportunity to build bipartisan support for legislation that improves access to banking and capital, resolves unfair federal tax treatment and establishes a durable regulatory framework that respects state markets. The industry is ready to work with lawmakers from both parties to turn that opportunity into meaningful progress.
The sweeping victories mark a significant shift in Washington's political landscape and give Democrats greater power to challenge the administration's agenda and shape federal policy. For the cannabis industry, the change in congressional control creates new opportunities to revisit federal cannabis reform, including the stalled rescheduling process.

Let the people decide. Massachusetts voters decisively rejected Question 8 on November 3, preserving the state’s recreational cannabis market. The measure sought to repeal legal adult-use cannabis sales beginning January 1, 2028, which would have made Massachusetts the first state to reverse legalization.
The proposed repeal faced opposition from cannabis industry groups, retailers, and advocates, who warned it would threaten thousands of jobs and eliminate hundreds of millions of dollars in annual state and local tax revenue. Supporters argued that public health and safety concerns outweighed the benefits.
The defeat preserves licensed dispensaries, regulated adult-use sales, and existing home cultivation protections. The outcome represents a significant victory for the Massachusetts cannabis industry and reinforces the durability of state-level recreational legalization in the United States.

The great green north. Organigram Global has agreed to acquire Aurora Cannabis, ending a months-long hostile takeover bid saga with Curaleaf that began in August. The deal is valued at approximately C$561 million, offering a 93% premium to Aurora’s unaffected share price and topping Curaleaf’s competing takeover bid. The transaction would create one of Canada’s leading cannabis companies with expanded global reach.
The combined company will unite Organigram’s Canadian recreational cannabis business and European operations with Aurora’s international medical cannabis platform, strengthening its presence across Canada, Europe and Australia. The deal also builds on Organigram’s strategic relationship with British American Tobacco.
The transaction is expected to close in January 2027, pending shareholder, regulatory and court approvals. The acquisition marks another significant step in global cannabis industry consolidation.
🇺🇸 STATE OF THE INDUSTRY
Idaho: Voters overwhelmingly rejected an amendment which would have stripped citizens of their right to use ballot initiatives to legalize cannabis and other drugs, protecting a potential pathway for future cannabis legalization even as cannabis remains illegal statewide.
Nevada: Lawmakers are weighing significant cannabis tax reforms that would eliminate the 15% wholesale excise tax while increasing the recreational retail tax from 10% to as much as 15%; the discussions come amid a roughly 40% decline in state cannabis tax revenue since 2021.
Pennsylvania: After a successful election this week for state Democrats, the party has control of the governor’s office and both legislative chambers for the first time in decades, removing a major political obstacle to adult-use cannabis legalization and positioning the state to potentially pass reform legislation in 2027.
TOGETHER WITH ANGELINO’S COFFEE
Your K-Cup Has Been Sitting in a Warehouse for Months
That grocery store pod? It was roasted long before it hit the shelf. Coffee starts losing flavor within weeks of roasting — which is why your morning cup tastes flat, no matter how nice your machine is.
Angelino's does it differently. A third-generation roaster in Los Angeles, they roast, grind, and seal every pod in-house for peak freshness, then ship it to your door within days of roasting. The difference is the first thing you'll notice: real aroma, real flavor, no bitterness.
Mix and match from 50+ specialty coffees, teas, and flavored blends — all Keurig®-compatible — and save more with every box you add, up to 34% off at 12+. Order once whenever you're running low, or subscribe for an extra 5% if that's easier. Entirely up to you.
