Medicare moves. Federal health officials, led byāÆDr.āÆMehmetāÆOz, launched a pilot initiative under the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) that allows eligible Medicare beneficiaries in select care models to receive up toāÆ$500 worth of federally legal, hempāderived CBD products each year with limited THC content and physician supervision.
āCMS is committed to innovation that meets patients where they are while maintaining strong safeguards and clinical oversight. Under the Presidentās leadership, weāre expanding the tools available to improve patientsā health while generating important insights into how providers can use these tools safely and effectively in real-world care settings.ā
Several leading cannabis companies are already moving to take advantage of the CMS program. High Tide subsidiary NuLeaf Naturals, Maryās Medicinals, and Vlasic Labs have all announced plans to participate, offering hemp-derived CBD products.
These moves mark a historic federal step into cannabinoid product coverage.

Growth gains. Vireo Growth has completed the acquisition of key cannabis assets from Schwazze, adding 45 dispensaries across Colorado and New Mexico along with a manufacturing facility in each state.
āThis transaction represents a meaningful step in the continued execution of our disciplined growth strategy, enabling Vireo to expand its presence in key markets through the acquisition of established retail operations at an implied estimated valuation of under 4x pro forma EBITDA. We believe this attractive entry point reflects current market conditions and underscores our focus on capital-efficient growth.ā
Leadership appointments tied to the transaction include Justin Dye as Chairman and Forrest Hoffmaster as CEO of Vireoās Colorado and New Mexico business units, with the Schwazze team expected to help drive improved operational performance across the combined network.

Legislative leap. Nebraskaās Legislature has taken a major step toward implementing a medical cannabis program more than a decade after voters approved legalization, passing its first-ever medical cannabis bill by a 46ā2 vote to empower the stateās Medical Cannabis Commission with authority to set fees, raise revenue, conduct background checks, and hire staff.
āStill so much that has to be done to turn this into a program patients can actually access. And until we see that day, we cannot call it success.ā
While this is being celebrated, it is only the first step in advancing the longādelayed framework needed to move toward patient access and have the program become operational.
