Morning High. Seth Rogen and his cannabis lifestyle brand Houseplant, in partnership with Cometeer, the maker of the world's first and only frozen coffee capsule, have launched Houseplant Coffee. The co-created collection of roasts, accompanied by the slogan “before you bake, you must wake,” was inspired by a mutual love of coffee and its revered place in the collaborators daily ritual and creative process.

“We love coffee and cannabis because, plainly put, we’d rather die than live in a world without them. Seriously. You take either one from us and we’d dissipate like dust in the wind. And we’re not alone in this morbid but very serious reality. Coffee is, simply put, the greatest way a human can start their day. And that's why we're excited to announce Houseplant Coffee by Cometeer.”

The Houseplant Coffee line features two roasts:

  • Bean There Done That: An Ethiopian medium roast, with notes of peach, sweet tea, and orange. This coffee from Yirgacheffe shines with the floral and fruity flavors that Ethiopian coffee is famous for.

  • Get Roasted: A Mexican dark roast, with notes of dark chocolate, cashew, and baking spice. This perfect specialty dark roast coffee is reminiscent of Mexican hot chocolate.

This isn’t the first major collaboration for Rogen and Houseplant. In January 2023, they joined forces with Airbnb on a Houseplant-inspired creative retreat in the Hollywood Hills of Los Angeles.

American High. Seventeen percent of Americans reported they smoke cannabis in 2023, according to new data from Gallup. The number has more than doubled since 2013, when the question was first added to the annual Consumption Habits survey.

Some notable statistics from the survey:

  • Over a quarter of young adults, those aged 18 to 24, reported the they smoke cannabis (26%), the highest of any age group

  • Men (19%) are more likely than women (14%) to use cannabis

  • Those without a college degree (21%) are more than twice as likely to smoke cannabis than college graduates (9%)

  • Democrats (22%) are more likely than Independents (17%) or Republicans (12%) to say they smoke cannabis

A survey in August of last year found 50 percent of adults in the United States said they have tried cannabis at some point.

Semper High. As it continues its efforts to combat an ongoing recruiting crisis, the U.S. Navy is no longer instantly dismissing recruits who arrive at boot camp with detectable traces of cannabis in their system.

"If they fail that test and own up -- 'Yes, I smoke marijuana '-- we do an evaluation of the young person to make sure there's not something else going on. But we trust that through the process of boot camp that we have an opportunity to bring them along with our culture."

Rear Adm. James Waters, director of the Navy's military personnel plans and policy division

The move comes with an acknowledgment of the legalized status of cannabis in many states. It is also part of wider efforts to reduce the number of sailors that drop out of boot camp, resulting in one of the lowest dropout rates in recent history at around 10 percent.
